  • Module 1: Understanding the Refurb Process

    Module one is all about answering exactly what a refurb involves. We’ll go through the step-by-step stages of the average full refurb, and understand the different levels of work required. We’ll also discuss what we mean by different ‘finishes’ and de-mystify some of the key refurb vocab that your build team might be using.

  • Module 2: Costing the Refurb Correctly

    Perhaps the biggest question we get about refurbs is how to estimate your refurb costs during a viewing - this module will answer exactly that. We’ll explore what you’re looking for to cost up your viewing estimates and discuss at what point you should be getting builders involved for quotes.

  • Module 3: Finding the Right Build Team

    We all know that finding a great build team can be difficult. Over the years we’ve definitely had more than our share of ‘problem’ trades and that can have serious consequences on your refurbs. In this module we’ll share with you our ‘Gold, Silver and Bronze’ approach to finding and qualifying build teams. We’ll also share best practices for working with trades so that you not only have a successful refurb, but also build strong relationships for future work at the same time.

  • Module: Refurb Management From Start to Finish

    A successful refurb comes down to good management and good communication. In this module we’ll help you to identify key milestone markers throughout the refurb process and explain what things you should be checking at each point. We’ll also cover some of our best approaches for keeping control of the refurb at all times, and how to make sure you’re achieving those all-important timelina

  • Module 5: Finalising the Build and Sign-Off

    Module five is all about wrapping things up in the correct way. We’ve kept on top of the process and checked in at key milestones but now we need to make sure everything is finished to the agreed standard and all of the right documents are exchanged. We’ll take you through what we look for when we’re ‘snagging’ a property, the tick sheets and final signatures that we use and when you should expect any certificates, warranties etc.

    We’ve been managing refurbs for a number of years and have probably made every mistake in the book - this module is all about you learning from our experience so that you don’t hit the same obstacles. When Roger isn't working on property or in the Academy, he spends his time fighting dragons over by the sofa or cruising down the yellow brick road with a tin man, scare crow, lion and his twin toddlers Lucas and Leila!
